I like how Joseph tells the story of teaching to martial arts. I like how the story ended with him saying that the fights everyday, but not in the same way that you would think. I feel the same way he does about schools today. I think they just focus on standardized test scores and not so much on the learning. I know in my high school to graduate you needed to get advanced or proficient on each of the sections. If you did not you had to sit there and retake them until you did. I think that schools today are just teaching kids what is on the test and there needs to be more teachers out there who really care about their students.

I like this article because it shows how kids who are usually told that they are not going to amount to anything turn out making it in the world. He talks about how all of his friends are in jail and by going to school he lost his street cred, but he doesn't care about that anymore. He went to school and got an education and is now a teacher. I think it is important for kids to hear his story because they need to know that they too can make something of themselves even when everyone is telling them they won't.

I think this story is very inspiring. This persons grandmother had all the odds against her coming over to America, but yet she still made herself a great life. I don't think being educated is going to school and being able to answer complex questions. I think being educated means being able to learn new information, like nona did, and applying it to everyday life.
